Conclusion
Health care providers have an ethical duty to ensure patient safety (McGonigle and Mastrian, 2012). Technology is advancing health care in many ways but it's important to be keenly aware of the unintended, negative consequences when technology is not implemented in a robust fashion. While technology can improve patient safety when integrated well into work processes, the overall safety and effectiveness of technology is dependant on its human users. As highlighted in this presentation, many factors contribute to effective implementation of new technology. As leaders, play a role in influencing the design and implementation of new technology, promote a culture of safety which keeps the patient and their safety in the forefront all while being committed to continuous learning and research in the seemingly unending quest to eliminate preventable harm.
