Technology can though compromise patient safety in a variety of ways such as :
- Poor Design
- Poor Implementation
- Lack of integration into workflow
- Lack of maturity of technology
- Lack of compliance to standards
- Lack of standardized equipment (influenced by human factors and the risks associated with multiple variations of a given machine, such as infusion pump, increases the risk for incorrect usage)
- Improper reliance on technology (reduced clinical judgement and over reliance on technology can result in adverse events even when the two mechanisms contradict one another)
